Course overview.
The day combines structured learning on the patterns that create inclusive and non-inclusive workplaces, a clear-eyed look at unconscious bias (what the research actually supports and what it doesn't), and a heavy emphasis on the practical communication and intervention skills that determine whether a manager actually changes the day-to-day experience of their team.
Who it's for.
Line managers, senior managers, HR business partners, and organisational leaders responsible for setting culture. Particularly useful for managers new to people leadership, organisations responding to a specific incident or culture audit, and senior leaders wanting to model the behaviours they expect from their managers.
What you'll learn.
The evidence base — what actually works
An honest look at the research on unconscious-bias training (more nuanced than the popular debate suggests), the interventions with strong evidence behind them (behavioural commitment, structured decision-making, accountability mechanisms) and the ones with weaker evidence (one-off awareness training, mandatory programmes without follow-through).
Communication and the practical interventions
The conversational disciplines that distinguish inclusive managers — calling-in vs calling-out, the language of meaningful apology, structured listening, and the meeting and feedback practices that reduce the friction faced by colleagues from under-represented groups.
When something goes wrong
The intervention playbook for the situations every manager will eventually face: a complaint about a peer's behaviour, an off-colour comment in a team meeting, a request to support someone through a personal disclosure. The structured responses that protect both the person harmed and the integrity of the workplace.
