Course overview.
Practitioner-led with extensive role-play and peer feedback. We work through real-world negotiation scenarios drawn from commercial contracts, salary discussions, partnership terms and high-stakes internal allocation. By the end of the day you'll have a structured preparation framework, a tested set of tactics, and the muscle to use them under pressure.
Who it's for.
Senior managers, commercial leads, procurement professionals, HR business partners, sales directors and anyone whose effectiveness depends on the outcome of negotiated agreements. Particularly useful before a high-stakes upcoming negotiation, or for people moving into a role where negotiation has just become part of the job.
What you'll learn.
Preparation — BATNA, reservation values and the issues map
Most negotiations are won or lost in the preparation. We cover the Harvard preparation framework: Best Alternative to Negotiated Agreement (BATNA), reservation value, target value, ZOPA analysis, issue identification and trade prioritisation. Practitioner templates you'll leave with.
The tactical playbook
Anchoring and reanchoring, principled concessions, bracketing, the flinch, the silent partner, the higher authority gambit — the moves and counter-moves used by professional negotiators and the ethical considerations that should govern when (and whether) you deploy them.
Value creation and the integrative shift
How to spot when a distributive negotiation can be reframed as integrative — and the techniques (multi-issue trades, contingent contracts, post-settlement settlements) that grow the pie before splitting it. The skill that distinguishes mature negotiators from aggressive ones.
