Through a sequence of exercises, role-play and structured reflection, you'll work through the situations most professionals struggle with: pushing back on unreasonable requests, asking for what you're owed, holding boundaries with senior colleagues, giving honest feedback that lands, and managing the internal narrative that often gets in the way of any of it.

Anyone whose effectiveness or wellbeing at work suffers because they say yes too often, dodge difficult conversations, or apologise for things that don't need an apology. Particularly relevant for people in early- and mid-career roles, those navigating power imbalances, and professionals coming back to work after a break.
What you'll learn.
The assertiveness spectrum
Where passivity, aggression and assertiveness sit on a continuum, the recognisable behavioural patterns of each, and the diagnostic that shows you where you sit by default in different situations. Honest self-assessment as the starting point for change.
The language of confident pushback
The specific words and phrases that make assertiveness work — and the ones that quietly undermine it. We cover the I-statement structure, the broken-record technique, fogging, and the meeting-room language that lets you decline gracefully without burning the relationship.
The internal work — confidence as a habit
The biggest barrier to assertiveness is usually the internal narrative, not the external situation. We close with the cognitive techniques (drawn from CBT and ACT) that practising therapists use to help clients build durable confidence — not just techniques for the difficult conversation.
