Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure is the cloud platform underpinning a huge share of UK public-sector and FTSE-listed IT estates — and the surface area is vast. This two-day hands-on course gives you a working tour of the Azure regions, services and management practices most administrators and engineers need, with the discipline to grow into the deeper specialisms from there.

About the course

Course overview.

We focus on the practical foundations: deploying and managing virtual machines, app services and storage; designing virtual networks that work; managing identity and access through Entra ID; and the cost-management practices that prevent the dreaded end-of-month invoice surprise. Worked exercises on a sandbox subscription throughout.

Who it's for.

IT administrators, infrastructure engineers, developers and technical leads moving onto or scaling out on Azure. Particularly useful as preparation for the AZ-104 (Administrator Associate) certification path, or for engineers from AWS or on-premises backgrounds adapting to Azure conventions.

What you'll learn.

01

Compute, storage and networking

The Azure foundations: virtual machines (sizing, scaling, availability), app services, storage accounts (blob/file/queue), and the virtual networking model — subnets, NSGs, route tables, peering. Hands-on deployment of each.

02

Identity, access and governance

Entra ID, RBAC, conditional-access policies, management groups and Azure Policy. The governance scaffolding that determines whether an Azure estate stays manageable as it scales or quietly turns into chaos.

03

Monitoring, automation and cost

Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and the diagnostic workflow for production issues. Plus the automation primitives (Bicep, ARM, PowerShell, the Azure CLI) and the cost-management practices that distinguish well-run estates from runaway ones.
